Shanghai Cheng Loong New Containerboard Machine – Successful Start-Up

140105 - On November 12, the Taiwan papermaker Shanghai Cheng Loong and Voith took one of the world's fastest packaging paper machines into operation in Shanghai, China. Thanks to the excellent teamwork and due to perfect tuning of the entire production process – ranging from the stock preparation system to the reel and including the slitter-winder – saleable paper was produced immediately after start-up. After no more than three days of production, 1,000 tons were produced per day!

The paper machine produces top-quality test liner and corrugating medium in a basis weight range of 90-240 g/m˛. The product range comprises light-weight grades based on recycled fibers, as well as kraft topliner made from virgin fiber. With a wire width of 7,000 mm, the machine was designed for a maximum daily production of 1,000 tons. Its design speed is 1,300 m/min, making it thus one of the world's fastest packaging paper machines.

The new line was set up in Shanghai, Asia’s fastest expanding city, and has significantly boosted the Cheng Loong Group’s output with its production capacity of 300,000 tpy. This investment was aimed at increasing the market share in the rapidly growing Chinese market.

The One Platform Concept conforms to state-of-the-art technology and represents Voith´s newest high-tech production line for linerboard in Asia. Cheng Loong ordered the entire process technology from Voith  The production line has been well defined according to the successful One Platform Concept, from the stock preparation system to the finishing equipment.

The dryer section and all wire, felt and fabric rolls was manufactured by Voith Paper Liaoyang in China. The installation and start-up of the linerboard machine took place in November 2004.

Voith was founded on January 1st, 1867. With annual sales of approximately € 3.1 billion, 24,000 employees and 180 locations worldwide, Voith is one of the largest family-owned companies in Europe.
